Modern heavy music genres based on a very specific drumming style: loud, wild, harsh and penetrating mix. Both the drum sounds and the game are based on aesthetics invented about two decades ago. Virtual Drummer BRUTE offers basic sounds and styles from Grunge to NuMetal.
In a nutshell: BRUTE is the virtual drummer for you if HEAVY 2 is too metallic and SOLID 2 doesn’t rock hard enough.
From Seattle with l̶̶o̶̶v̶̶e̶̶ greetings – In the early 1990s, a new, guitar-heavy music category set out to win the hearts and ears of the public. A new generation of artists would unleash distorted guitars, angry drums and a whole bunch of moods for an audience that suddenly wanted to rock again. Influenced by the classic rock of the 1960s and 1970s, and in opposition to the synthetic aesthetics of the previous decade, bands such as Rage Against The Machine, Nirvana, Soundgarden or Alice in Chains popularized the next incarnation of rock music. His compilation remains popular to this day among hard rock guitar styles.

Sharp, clear character – What makes BRUTE special? Above all, it was designed, recorded and processed to do one thing really well: to compete against the multi-layered walls of distorted guitars while maintaining character and detail. It was not an easy task … The solution was to record with three different sets of microphones that accentuate different aspects of the drum sound.
Each of the three sets of microphones has a specific sonic function :
Click / Slap A
vintage 1960s Sennheiser MD21 emphasizes attack transients. The original signal was processed by Manley Voxbox.
Sand / Mud
Vintage tube and ribbon boom microphones. Here the character is captured. All organic noises and resonances that give warmth, roughness and naturalness.
Clean / Nice \
State of the art Schoeps microphones with high performance specifications that capture sound as is. With the lowest possible coloration and distortion. For an expensive and glossy character.
Rock Kit – The five drum kits in BRUTE have been created with specific styles in mind. Hear these different drum kits from dry to processed, mixing the mix presets and Smack knob with the sound of each kit.
Sound City– If you want to dive deeper into the history of this sound, we recommend Dave Grohl’s (Foo Fighters) documentary “Sound City” about the cult studio.
NOFX? Well, there is a little … – Mix presets shape the overall sound, replacing an entire effect chain with multiple buses for each channel. Saves you time and hassle fighting a DAW bus system.

Smack – Make your drums unique! Smack adds specially recorded and processed mic signals that focus attacks and transients while maintaining the warm organic quality of the setup.
Grit – Switch between two sets of microphones, mostly from good and clean to dirty and mean.
